Meet The Bloom Team!

Come and have a read about our staff team! We are the people who run Bloom, along with an amazing group of volunteers who help keep Bloom going.

Kate

Director & Head of Bloom’s Secret Garden

What is your favourite thing about working at Bloom?

Working in a great team! I feel appreciated and feel that all that I do is worthwhile. I have got to learn more about what I love with people that are likeminded, kind and non-judgemental.

What is your favourite flower and why?

My favourite flower changes from season to season, but at present it is the sweet pea. It is the best smell in the world. I love picking them and bringing them into the house each week over the summer.

What you think people should look forward to when attending Bloom?

Expect a non-judgemental, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where you can escape, relax, learn and meet new people.

Jane

Director & Shop Manager

What do you do at Bloom?

As much as I love the allotment, my role as a Director is mostly behinds the scenes stuff. I’m responsible for fundraising, manage the finances, day to day operations, the shop and commerce and HR. Occasionally, I get to do a fun event or help out in the garden but it's mostly all the stuff that keeps the organisation functioning in the background.

What is your favourite thing about working at Bloom?

Knowing the positive impact we have on the individuals that come to our gardens.

What is your favourite flower and why?

I'm sure everyone will say what a tough questions this is, but it really is! It changes daily but at the moment I would say all varieties of Achillea.

What do you think people should look forward to when attending a session at Bloom?

The other people, don't get me wrong, the garden is gorgeous and the days are always fun, but it's meeting all the other great people that make it what it is.

Kendall

Director and Volunteer Coordinator

What do you do at Bloom?

I am one of the Directors at Bloom. I look after our lovely staff and manage the daily logistics of running the organisation. I normally plan our events, groups and cut lots of flowers during the summer. If you talk to us on socials, it’s probably me you are chatting to.

What is your favourite thing about working at Bloom?

I have a super varied job that I love. I have been on the team since the beginning, so it has been an absolute pleasure watching it grow and develop. I love meeting so many lovely people and working with the best staff and volunteers ever. Free flowers is always a bonus too!

What is your favourite flower and why?

I think my favourite flower is a bearded iris (Iris Germanica). I love how flouncy and frilly they are and how the colour ways are so varied. They look like they have been painted!

What should people look forward to when attending a session at Bloom?

There are always people there to support you and make your feel welcome. Lots of people attend alone, so we always have friendly staff and volunteers on site to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. You can always look forward to enjoying the outdoors and learning lots from other people.

Erin

Florist

What do you do at Bloom?

I work as the in-house florist, using all the flowers that we grow at the sessions! My favourite thing about working at Bloom is meeting all of the wonderful women that volunteer at Bloom, they bring so much positivity and joy! They also help to grow all of the amazing flowers I get to use every week.

What is your favourite flower?

I have too many favourite flowers to count on one hand! Anything with a unique scent or colour always captures my attention, these kinds of flowers can make you feel very nostalgic, which I love.

What should people look forward to when volunteering at Bloom?

People should look forward to spending some quality time in nature and in a relaxed and positive environment. There’s no need for you to have any previous gardening experience and I feel like you always leave feeling inspired by something.

Alice

Gather & Grow Session Leader

I have had a passion for gardening and flowers since I was a teenager, and first discovered Bloom when I moved to Sheffield from Oxford to study, 2 years ago. I soon began to volunteer both as a florist and at the allotment, and never looked back!

What is your favourite thing about working at Bloom?

Running the Gather & Grow sessions gives me the chance to meet so many brilliant women - we always laugh a lot and learn new things together. It is especially rewarding to see people experience the joy and relaxation that gardening can bring to their daily lives."
