We will be practice potting on and you will receive a seed sowing calendar to help plan your flower growing season.

Ikebana Workshop

During the workshop you will be creating an Ikebana-inspired arrangement using a Kenzan with guidance and tutorage from our in-house florist. We will be using locally grown, seasonal flowers and foliage to make a unique arrangement. Our workshops are for all abilities and are about having fun, being creative and giving it a go!

All equipment provided, including flowers and a Niwaki Kenzan. There is a discounted ticket price, if you bring your own Kenzan.

If you have a passion for flowers or have always wanted to have a go at flower arranging then Bloom Flower Club is here for you!

Once per month, our flower shop will be hosting a relaxed drop-in workshop where you will be given a mixed bucket of locally grown flower stems for you to play with!

Our in-house florist will be on hand to teach you anything you would like to know whether that's, bouquet making, flower crowns, buttonholes, arranging in a vase - literally anything! And you will get to leave with your wonderful creation and hopefully some new skills!

Join us and Rebecca Lee Close at the Hillsborough Pavillion for some nourishing movement to help us feel good. This class is aimed at inviting space to feel comfort and ease, as if you were out in the peaks on a warm summers day.

Each class will be unique to the people in the space. However, a rhythm of gentle opening, easeful movement, mindfulness and breath awareness will be followed throughout.

Rebecca encourages students to come to class with an open mind and an expectation to understand and feel your subtle body and movements intentionally. Rebecca aims to help you find a way to make yoga work for you, rather than straining to make your body fit into a consumer driven assumption of yoga.

How To Grow a Flower Garden - 6 Week Course

We are delivering a schedule of seasonal horticulture and floristry workshops to help you get the most from your garden. This programme of events is aimed at beginners and for those who want to leanr about the foundations of growing flowers. Each session will be practical and hands-on and will allow you to get stuck in. The monthly break down is as follows:

  • Thursday 21st March 6.30pm-7.30pm - Get To Know Your Flowers Talk at TONCO Bakery

This session will help you identify the aims of your growing space and introduce you to the main plants and flowers that you can grow.

  • Saturday 13th April 10am - 12:30pm - Sowing Seeds at Bloom's Community Garden

Practising different methods of seed sowing and which seeds to sow now.

  • Sunday 9th June 10am-1pm- Cutting, Conditional and Arranging at TONCO Bakery

We will be teaching you how to cut flowers correctly and how to condition the stems. You will also be creating a hand-tied bouquet with guidance and tutorage from our in-house florist.

  • Sunday 21st July 10am - 12pm - How To Create a Vase Arrangement at TONCO Bakery

We will teach you how to create vase arrangements that can be used in any vase that you have at home.

  • Sunday 29th September 10am - 12pm - Bulb Planting and Dahlia Dividing at Bloom's Community Garden
    You will learn how to plant bulbs for a maximum yield and how to lift, divide and store dahlias over the winter.

  • Sunday 27th October Seed Saving and Drying Flowers 10am - 12pm - Location weather dependant.

We will be learning all about different techniques or drying flowers and how to save seeds. This session will be focused around biodiversity and growing an environmentally friendly garden.

Willow Weaving - Make a Living Dome

Join us at Big Bloom, our community garden to help us create our very own living dome for the community to enjoy. This workshop will be hands-on and perfect for little ones to help too. We are teaming up with Sarah from Twig Twisters for the workshop.

The sculptures are made entirely of willow. Sarah’s workshops are run at a steady pace and are suitable for beginners. You will be expertly guided through every step to create a wonderful sculpture for the whole community to enjoy.

Winter Wellbeing Run

Join Alice for a fun and invigorating run around Endcliffe Park, which will boost your mood and provide an opportunity to embrace the great outdoors during the colder months.

We will meet at the Hunter’s Bar entrance to the park before setting off on a gentle 5km run along paths and trails. After the run is complete, we will head to a nearby cafe for coffee and pastries!

This activity is suitable for all levels and is designed to be a welcoming and inclusive experience. The pace will be adjusted to the ability of the group and we will take plenty of walking breaks if needed. If you have any concerns prior to the event, please get in touch.

Remember to wear clothes and footwear that is suitable for the activity and weather conditions, and bring a water bottle.

Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Join us for a practical day of fruit tree pruning where we will teach you the practice of winter fruit tree pruning, and together we will help to maintain the fruit trees at Big Bloom.

If you have them, please bring along a sharp pair of secateurs, loppers, a pruning saw and a pair of rubber grip gardening gloves. Tools and gloves will be provided if you don’t have your own.

Make Your Own Plant Pot & Macrame Hanger

In this workshop you'll be making a hanging plant pot with Clare Anderson. We'll be using a stoneware clay and the pinch pot technique to make one or two small plant pots. These will be left to dry, then they will be bisque fired, glazed on the outside, re-fired and returned to you. During the workshop you will also make a macrame hanger to hang your pot. These pots will be ideal for small trailing plants such as string of hearts.

Seed Saving Workshop

Interactive workshop looking at the different ways we can save seeds from a variety of plants, and talking about all the advantages that come along with seed saving! With the opportunity to take home the seeds you have processed, please also feel free to also bring along any excess seeds you may have to swap

There will also be the time to look more closely at seeds/seed heads, discuss any questions you might have about growing from seed, and drawing them in there many different forms.

Planting is beginning at Big Bloom! We have kindly had part of our community garden designed for us and we have been working on preparing the area ready for planting. And now we need your help to get it planted up! We need to plant hundreds of plants, so come along and get stuck in!
