A Morning in the Flower Garden โ€“ In Collaboration with Migration Matters Festival

This June, we were delighted to host a special session, A Morning in the Flower Garden, as part of the brilliant Migration Matters Festival 2025. The event brought together 18 wonderful participants for a warm and welcoming morning of gardening, connection, and community at our much-loved Big Bloom garden.

The aim of the session was simple: to spend time in nature, get our hands in the soil, and share the joy of gardening with new faces. With the support of Migration Matters, we welcomed individuals from a range of backgrounds, many of whom were exploring Bloomโ€™s gardens for the first time.

Together, we spent the morning working on a variety of seasonal gardening tasks. Attendees took part in seed sowing, potting on young flower seedlings, and the ever-satisfying job of deadheading roses โ€“ a task that not only keeps our blooms looking their best but encourages even more to flourish. We also fed thirsty plants, ensuring they were well-nourished after the warm early summer weather, and planted a brand-new decorative border to bring even more colour and texture to the garden.

The atmosphere was relaxed and collaborative, with conversation flowing just as freely as the tea. As always, Big Bloom provided a peaceful backdrop for shared stories, laughter, and the simple pleasure of working side by side. For many, it was a first step into a new community โ€“ and for us, it was a beautiful reminder of how gardens can grow more than just flowers.

Weโ€™re so grateful to Migration Matters Festival for partnering with us on this event and to everyone who came along. And a special thanks to Rumbi Tauro, who chose us to be part of their collection of curated events happening for the festival.

Whether you're new to Bloom Sheffield or a long-time supporter, weโ€™re always thrilled to welcome you into the garden. Hereโ€™s to more mornings like this โ€“ filled with soil, sunshine, and connection.

One of the attendees was Silvana Lamb, who has written a gorgeous piece about the session for Now Then Magazine. You can read the whole thing by clicking the button below.
